BBC Greater Manchester move 'to bring more firms to the city'

Date: 14/06/2011

A growing number of London-based businesses may look to take their 0207 phone numbers and relocate their offices to Greater Manchester in the wake of the BBC's partial move to Salford Quays.

According to research project manager for officebroker.com Simon Jones, the broadcaster's decision to shift five departments from London to the north-west city will also attract other businesses.

"You've got to expect that you will see all the supporting industries … moving in as well and taking up space," he remarked.

Companies that do follow the BBC from the capital to Salford might want to consider retaining their 0207 phone numbers, as keeping the same contact details is likely to minimise disruption for clients.

Mr Jones added that serviced offices are likely to be popular with such firms, as they allow them to move in quickly and then expand if necessary.

Last month, research by officebroker.com revealed demand and take-up of office space in Manchester is on the increase.
