British Gas call centre workers receive qualifications

Date: 31/08/2011

Firms buying new revenue share numbers for their contact centres may want to follow in one organisation's footsteps when it comes to customer service.

Seven employees at the British Gas call site in Old Trafford have just received qualifications for their good work in this sector.

The workers are aged between 16 and 21 and were awarded nationally recognised NVQs after completing an eight-month apprenticeship scheme.

General manager of British Gas Manchester Stuart Hough explained customer service is "of paramount importance" to his enterprise.

He added that the training programme enables the firm "to support the local community by offering opportunities to young people and also helps us to attract staff who may not have considered a career with British Gas".

Earlier this month, it was announced that Droitwich Community Contact Centre - run by Wychavon District Council - is to move to a new location that will be easier for residents to access.
