Companies looking for new 0800 number providers may agree with one website's comments regarding a recently-issued Ofcom fine.
The telecoms regulator ordered TalkTalk and Tiscali UK to pay £3 million after they issued tens of thousands of customers with the incorrect bills.
According to Michael Phillips from Broadbandchoices.co.uk, this was the right course of action and he commended Ofcom for the way it intervened in what was "clearly a difficult and distressing situation for consumers".
However, the expert pointed out that the multi-million pound penalty will be going to the Treasury and will therefore do little to compensate the people affected by TalkTalk and Tiscali UK's mistakes.
Despite this, Mr Phillips added that "hopefully today's fine will act as a warning to other [internet service providers] to ensure their house is in order".
Ofcom has the power to fine companies that are in breach of telecoms rules by as much as ten per cent of their relevant turnover.
