BT introduces price hikes

Date: 28/04/2011

Businesses may want to consider switching to 0844 numbers now that BT has increased its prices.

From today (April 28th), customers will be charged 7.6p per minute, instead of the previous 7p per minute.

This is a nine per cent price rise, meaning that over the past 12 months the operator has increased costs for users by a total of 41 per cent.

Line rental bills have also gone up from £12.79 to £13.90 today.

When the changes were announced earlier this year, BT Retail consumer managing director John Petter said that "the calling patterns of customers means the impact of the daytime rate and set-up fee changes will be minimal".

Call connection fees have also gone up to 12.5p - an increase of 34.4 per cent.

Ofcom recently released details of the most complained about major telecoms providers in the UK.

BT received the third-highest number of calls, with 0.37 complaints per 1,000 customers.
