Burton call centre dedicates phone lines to Children in Need

Date: 01/11/2011

A call centre in the West Midlands could be using call rerouting tools as it dedicates 50 phonelines to a very special non-geographic number later this month.

The Npower contact centre on Wetmore Road in Burton has been selected to take part in this year's Children in Need appeal, the Burton Mail reports.

During the live TV show, which will be broadcast on November 18th, staff at the site will give up their free time to take calls from members of the public wishing to make donations.

It will use 50 lines for the cause, with employees manning the phones from 8:30 GMT on Friday to 02:00 the next morning.

Centre manager for Npower in Burton Paul Walker said his team is "very excited" about the upcoming event.

"In fact, we've had so many people offer to help that we've even ended up having to turn people down," he added.

The first ever Children in Need broadcast went out over the radio waves on Christmas Day in 1927 and so far over £600 million has been raised.
