Campaign calls for walk-in centre relocation

Date: 09/01/2012

New 0300 numbers may be needed if plans to relocate Loughborough's walk-in centre is successful.

GP Online reports how medical professionals have backed a campaign to move West Leicestershire hospital's practice-based service, which has been running since 2000.

A 12-week consultation on the matter is due to close on January 11th and will see the Pinfold Gate surgery expanded if the walk-in centre is moved to Loughborough Hospital.

GP and chairman of the West Leicestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) Dr Nick Willmott said there are many advantages to the relocation.

He explained how around 3,000 patients a year are sent to the hospital as their injuries are too severe to be dealt with at the centre.

So Dr Willmott claimed this change "will save a lot of unwanted journeys and will be cost effective".

The CCG claims its principles include focusing on patient needs, ensuring a clinically led and locality focused organisation and strengthening capacity and capability of primary care.
