Childline has explained its 0800 number is very memorable, meaning children can easily learn it off by heart.
Head of the organisation Sue Minto told the BBC that it receives a "steady" number of calls from youngsters and therefore it is important they know how to get in touch.
She said the charity makes its 0800 1111 number clear in all of its promotions, adding: "A lot of children know that off by heart."
This could prove to other companies how useful 0800 numbers can be, as they provide them with a memorable and easily recognisable point of contact.
Childline is currently planning to open a new online counselling service based in Cardiff.
However, although more kids are using the internet to reach the group, Ms Minto claimed its telephone number is still popular.
Childline offers confidential advice to young people on a range of issues, from exam stress and bullying to abuse or drugs.
