Consumer confidence 'continues to drop'

New figures show consumer confidence to be at a low in the UK, which could encourage firms to purchase free 0800 numbers in a bid to drive business.

The latest index recorded a score of -32 for October 2011, which is a decline of 13 points when compared with the same time last year.

Similarly, the general economic situation aspect of the index declined by 19 points over the course of the year to hit -62 in October.

Consumer confidence is now at its tenth lowest level since the chart was established in 1974, managing director of GfK NOP Social Research Nick Moon stated.

He added that "the government can't rely on people spending their way out of the double-dip recession that is likely to be on the horizon".

This could mean companies are increasingly eager to step up their marketing campaigns to attract orders and 0800 numbers may be the way to do this.
