Could 0800 numbers be useful as cost of living rises?

Date: 26/08/2011

Many firms eager to attract customers in the UK may wish to purchase 0800 numbers.

This is because, according to director at Ark Financial Planning Phil Perry, the cost of living is going up in the UK.

He stated that "gas, electric [and] all of the usual utility bills are rising," adding that his council tax payments are the only thing that has stayed the same.

However, depending on the sector in which people work, their incomes may not be increasing in line with the growth.

With this in mind, enterprises might want to consider buying 0800 numbers as they are free for individuals to call from their landline.

Because they do not have to pay, they could be more likely to get in touch with organisations using these prefixes than those that charge premium rates.

Similarly, 0808 numbers are also free to contact from landlines, as these were introduced by Ofcom when the number of available prefixes started to run out.
