Some retailers may wish to consider purchasing revenue share numbers to boost their income.
New figures from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) have revealed the volume of high street sales declined in September 2011 compared with the same time the previous year.
In total, 39 per cent of retailers recorded a drop in sales volumes, compared with 24 per cent that experienced growth.
Chair of the CBI Distributive Trades Panel and Asda chief operating officer Judith McKenna described the situation as sluggish but stable.
"With the consumer squeeze set to get tighter with the winter utility bills rise, we expect retailers will face a challenging October," she added.
With this in mind, some enterprises may wish to purchase revenue share numbers, as these mean they will earn money every time a consumer gets in touch.
They could be especially useful if shops have a customer services department that receives a steady volume of enquiries.
