Could Salisbury get a new medical centre?

Date: 15/08/2011

New local phone numbers may be required for a medical centre that could be constructed in Salisbury.

Proposals to build a three-storey practice on empty land on Avon Approach have been put to Wiltshire Council, the Salisbury Journal reports.

This would be a replacement site for Castle Street Surgery, which claims it is currently very oversubscribed and needs more space.

Agent for the application Gavin O'Grady, from Primary Secondary Design, said the current surgery has "no access for disabled people to the first floor, the consulting rooms aren't the right size any more and they have problems with infection control".

However, so far Salisbury City Council has objected to the application because it claims there would be a lack of on-site parking.

One location that is set to receive a new GP surgery is Gelligaer in Caerphilly, as work has already begun on a new two-storey structure that will treat patients and become a training centre for GPs, the Campaign reported.
