A new call centre that may require local phone numbers is to be introduced in Yorkshire.
Doncaster Council's cabinet has approved plans to replace the telephone desks in 80 different departments with one centralised site, the Epworth Bells reports.
It is thought this could save up to £3.8 million and the public will have just three phone numbers from which to choose when they wish to make an enquiry.
Mayor Peter Davies supported the initiative and said the current arrangements are "a nightmare".
"You would get put from department to department and usually finish up where you started or did not get any answers," he continued.
Mr Davies added that members of the public will see a "vast difference in customer service".
At the end of last month, national call centre manager for Softline VIP Monika Roode claimed treating consumers well should be a top priority for all contact centres.
