Health bosses call for comments on GP service

Date: 19/01/2012

Proposals to move an out of hours GP service to a new site could mean new geographic numbers are needed.

Health bosses in the Bradford district are appealing for comments from local residents on how care in the area can be improved, the Yorkshire Post reports.

The call comes as a review is underway to consider where patients should be able to seek urgent out-of-hours treatment if they need it.

Mike Edmondson, head of primary care planning and strategy at NHS Airedale, Bradford and Leeds, said: "We want to provide services that are delivered from the locations which are the most convenient and accessible to the majority of people."

Current proposals include increasing appointments at Bradford Royal Infirmary and Airedale and closing the service at Eccleshill, or retaining all three, but moving the latter to a new better-located site.

The news comes after the North Devon Journal recently reported residents in Bude are fighting to have an out of hours GP service reinstated.
