Ed Mead, director of estate agent Douglas & Gordon, described the capital as a "safe haven" due to the fact it is located on an island.

Furthermore, it is easy for professionals to trade with businesses in both New York and Japan because the city is on the Greenwich meridian, making it a unique destination.

"Hence why it is one of those places that always has demand - we're talking about the centre of London here," Mr Mead continued.

He added that no matter what the domestic or European markets are doing, people always want to operate out of London.

Companies that hold this sentiment may wish to purchase 020 numbers when move to the city, as these instantly inform customers of the enterprise's whereabouts.

Furthermore, they are cheap for clients to call from both landlines and mobile phones.
