Manchester Airport call centres 'to give authentic Mancunian experience'

Date: 28/12/2011

Local numbers may help Manchester Airport in its bid to help its call centres provide customers with an authentic experience from the heart of the city.

It has been reported the transport hub intends to teach employees to speak with a Mancunian accent and hold music will be from famous local bands such as The Smiths and The Stone Roses.

Daniel King, the airport's customer services manager, told the Manchester Evening News: "Whilst admittedly it does perhaps conform a little to the northern stereotype, we want all of our customer-facing staff to endorse a friendly, welcoming and helpful attitude."

The news comes after it was recently claimed airport bosses have decided to relocate the current call centre from Scotland back to the north-west, as passengers have been complaining about not being able to understand the staff.

Every year 19 million people depart from Manchester Airport, travelling with one of the 65 airlines that fly to 200 destinations across the globe.
