Companies looking to purchase new 0800 numbers may be interested to hear a recent announcement from the European Commission regarding telecoms.
The organisation previously requested that all 27 EU member states provided information detailing the implementation of new communication rules.
So far, only a handful of nations have complied, despite the deadline being May 25th and the rules being a priority for the Digital Agenda for Europe.
These are the UK, Ireland, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Malta and Sweden.
Now, the European Commission is sending 'letters of formal notice' to the remaining 20 states and they will receive a further request to implement the legislation if they still fail to comply.
These include Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Italy and Spain and they may end up being referred to the Court of Justice of the European Union.
Reuters quotes EU digital affairs spokesman Jonathan Todd as saying: "It's a priority of the digital agenda for this legislation to be applied in practice as quickly as possible."
