National Express extends Birmingham call centre service

Date: 26/07/2011

One company that may require new non-geographic phone numbers is National Express.

It has just launched a 24-hour phone line in Birmingham and claims to be the only travel operator to provide such a service.

Currently, 200 people are employed at the firm's existing call centre in the city and ten full-time positions have been created by the decision to extend its opening times.

The site is located on Hagley Road and it is thought National Express will receive an additional 20,000 calls every month.

It has been trialling the idea since the beginning of July.

Belen Martinez, customer service director for National Express Coach, said: "We are one of the only travel companies in the UK to run services overnight, so it makes perfect sense to introduce a call centre which mirrors this."

Consumers looking for travel advice can also download the company's iPhone app, which provides information regarding the National Express East Anglia network.
