National Grid opens 'improved' call centre

Date: 05/10/2011

National Grid has set up a revamped call centre in Leicestershire in order to improve the service it offers to staff.

The firm currently employs 400 workers at a site in Northampton and intends to relocate between 150 and 200 of them to the new facility in Hinckley, which was opened on Monday (October 3rd).

Staff who do not want to make the switch will be offered other roles within the firm, National Grid said.

It makes use of 0800 and 0844 numbers to deal with customer enquiries and receives around 2.7 million calls per year, 1.7 million of which are made to the National Gas Emergency line.

Chief executive Steve Holliday said the Hinckley contact centre is one of the company's "key sites in the UK".

In a statement, a spokesperson for the firm said the centre has been made "more efficient" through the streamlining of call handling operations.
