New 0300 numbers may be required in Longton as there are plans to build a new doctors' surgery in the area.
NHS Stoke-on-Trent wants to construct one primary care centre that will be home to the current Willow Bank GP practice, as well as several other surgeries, the Sentinel reports.
This could mean the site also requires call routing services to ensure patients are directed to the correct department when they get in touch.
According to the newspaper, doctors and community leaders have welcomed the news.
A spokesperson for NHS Stoke-on-Trent said: "Detailed planning has been undertaken over the last 18 months and this is progressing."
The proposals were first established when Asda revealed plans to build a supermarket on the current Willow Bank site.
New 0300 numbers could be the ideal choice for this development, as they are specially designed for use by organisations operating in the charity or public sectors.
