New local rate numbers may be needed by a company that has relocated 200 workers to a site in South Shields.
Utilitywise has leased the former Garlands building at Market Dock and moved its base from Bede Chambers in Jarrow, the Shields Gazette reports.
The site was previously used as a purpose-built call centre and has been empty since May 2010.
However, the new tenants are likely to bring a new lease of life to the building, which provides Utilitywise with a larger hub that will complement the company's expanding business needs.
Simon Taylor, associate director of Jones Lang LaSalle, who helped broker the deal, said: "The call centre is a first-class facility and I am sure Utitlitywise will continue to grow and prosper, given the quality of the accommodation."
Last month, estate agent Sanderson Weatherall announced it was hoping to secure a tenant for the Garlands building in the new year.
