New Wigan health centre nearing completion

Date: 15/09/2011

Some 0300 numbers may soon be required in Wigan as the construction of a new health facility is nearing completion.

The £1.5 million Standish Medical Centre will span two floors and replace the current Church Street practice, Wigan Today reports.

It will be completely finished at the beginning of next year and is expected to cater for more than 12,000 patients.

Rachel Beverley-Stevenson, chief executive officer at One Medical - which is in charge of the project - said work is soon to begin on the interior furnishings.

General practitioner Dr Hans Van Spelde added: "We are delighted to see that after many years of attempting to improve our cramped and outdated premises, all the hard work has paid off."

With so many local residents using the service, the site could benefit from the use of call management tools.

These can allow enquiries to be re-routed or diverted to alternative lines, while also showing statistics for peak times and the number of missed calls.
