Non-geographic numbers may soon be required at a new call centre in Cardiff, which is being created to meet the needs of a number of retailers.
The Listening Company, owned by service provider Serco, will open the site in August, creating as many as 600 jobs.
It oversees sales for retail firms such as the Shop Direct Group - which includes the Littlewoods brand - and chief executive of the firm Neville Upton welcomed the expansion.
The move will "enable us to enhance our geographical spread and build on our relationships with key clients", he remarked.
Other clients for the company include Sky, Peugeot and O2 and businesses that operate in the UK might want to consider making use of a UK call centre rather than an overseas alternative.
This is because recent research by Ovum revealed many people become frustrated when calling foreign numbers, due partially to language barriers.
