Number of UK start-ups 'increasing'

Date: 22/08/2011

There may currently be a growing demand for new non-geographic numbers in the UK.

This is because, according to data from Companies House, more than 500,000 enterprises have been established since the coalition government came to power.

Between May 16th 2010 and July 31st 2011, 506,000 new businesses were incorporated.

Over the past year there has also been an 11 per cent increase in the number of firms created.

Business minister Mark Prisk described this as "positive news", especially given the economic difficulties that have been experienced in recent times.

"Helping the private sector create jobs and economic growth is the top priority of this government - that's why we're cutting business taxes, supporting start-ups and tackling red tape," he continued.

One company that recently launched a new 0800 number was Plusnet, as it decided to do away with the old 0845 prefixes it previously used for customer service lines.
