Ofcom finds TalkTalk guilty of dishonest conduct

Date: 25/05/2011

TalkTalk has been criticised by Ofcom for the way in which it has dealt with some of its customers.

Many 0800 numbers providers may want to take note of the regulatory body's findings, which showed the firm to be in breach of the Communications Act 2003 regarding mis-selling.

An investigation into the company was launched in November last year after Ofcom received complaints about its service.

It was discovered to have mislead consumers, with some being signed up to contracts without proper consent.

TalkTalk has now been given until June 20th to come up with a solution to the issue.

Speaking to v3.co.uk, a spokesperson for the brand stated that "improvements in the language used and the materials provided are constantly being made and we will be providing Ofcom with detailed information about our ongoing programme".

According to the General Condition 24 on Sales and Marketing of Fixed-Line Telephony Services, telecoms providers must not contact customers in an inappropriate manner or engage in "dishonest, misleading or deceptive" conduct.
