Office layout 'important when moving to new premises'

Date: 15/06/2011

Businesses planning to move offices and purchase non-geographic numbers have been offered advice on the process.

Phil McCabe, spokesman for the Forum of Private Business, explained it is important to consider the layout of the new premises to avoid disruption.

Furthermore, a company's various departments, which could each require alternative phone numbers after the move, may need to be treated differently.

Mr McCabe stated that the way an office looks should aim to maximise the effectiveness of each sector.

"Certain departments have closer working relationships than others and I think it is important that the layout of an office facilitates rather than acts as a barrier to [them]," he added.

A final piece of advice was to ensure employees are kept in the loop and involved in the moving process.

These comments come after director of Colliers and member of the British Council for Offices Urban Group Philip Papenfus said more and more firms may look into the possibility of moving when the economy starts to pick up.
