Promoting staff development 'helps boost retention'

Date: 25/01/2012

Firms that employ customer support operators to handle calls to 0800 numbers may want to take note of one expert's advice and support staff progression.

Elizabeth Bacchus, director of thesuccessfulcv.com, explained training workers and helping them to develop in their careers can raise morale.

"Any organisation that actively develops their staff through structured learning and development programmes has a greater chance of retaining their staff," she stated.

It was suggested employees are more likely to stay at a company if they feel their needs are being met.

Introducing workplace mentors, performance and assessment measures and having strategic succession plans in place were all recommended.

Employers were advised to ensure they always make worker feel appreciated and valued by recognising their achievements.

Ms Bacchus claimed these features will "maximise" the retention of staff and also help support the future of a business.
