Recession 'a real threat' in Q4

Date: 25/10/2011

Businesses may wish to purchase revenue share numbers and do all they can in a bid to boost their earnings.

This is because, according to one senior figure from the Bank of England, the UK could fall into another recession by the end of 2011.

Speaking to Channel 4 News, Martin Weale from the Monetary Policy Committee suggested the country's economy could experience negative growth during the final three months of the year.

"The underlying rate of growth of the economy is weak now and I wouldn't be terribly surprised if we were to see output contract in the fourth quarter," he commented.

Mr Weale also stated that the risk of a recession is higher than it was a few months ago, possibly due to the debt crisis currently plaguing the eurozone.

His comments support the findings of Nationwide's Consumer Confidence Index for September 2011, which predicted economic growth to remain weak over the coming months.
