Resident calls for return to free 0845 number

Date: 06/12/2011

The decision to update Humberside Police's non-emergency number to the new 101 offering has been criticised by one local resident.

In an interview with the Bridlington Free Press, Peter Jordan claimed he is unhappy with the change, as he previously received free calls when the force used an 0845 local rate number.

He explained how he was forced to pay an additional fee on top of his usual tariff as the 101 number charges a flat rate of 15p.

Although the cost remains the same regardless of the length or time of the call, Mr Jordan claimed he is unhappy with "the principle" of having to now pay.

"If you use the number regularly then it soon adds up, especially if it is a charge you weren't aware of," he added.

As well as offering some customers free calls, 0845 numbers provide organisations with a national and professional image, whilst being easy to remember.
