Santander could be looking to purchase additional non-geographic numbers, as it is expanding its operations in the north-west.
The financial group is creating 100 additional call centre jobs at its commercial banking headquarters in Bootle, the Liverpool Echo reports.
This means there will be a total of 200 employees at the site and the organisation wants to grow its services to offer more for small businesses.
A merger also took place recently to combine Santander's corporate, commercial and business banking operations.
Managing director for Santander Business Banking Robin Foale said enterprises "want to know they have someone at their bank who is contactable and dependable when they need them".
He added that small firms are a vital part of the British economy and it is important they receive the correct amount of customer support from their bank.
The Manchester Evening News recently reported that the British Gas contact centre in Stockport is taking on a greater number of staff in preparation for the busy Christmas period.
