Santander takes over RBS call centre in Liverpool

Date: 15/09/2011

Santander may wish to purchase new 0800 phone numbers as it has just taken control of a call centre in Liverpool.

The site in Wavertree Technology Park - previously owned by Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) - was due to be closed by next year, the Liverpool Daily Post reports.

However, Santander has now taken over operations, as well as control of the centre's 279 members of staff.

A spokeswoman for RBS described the move as "good news for Liverpool".

"The site was earmarked for closure as part of 12 centres closing before 2012, including Liverpool, but it will continue to provide back office support," she added.

Santander revealed last year that it plans to take over 318 branches of RBS in a bid to increase its presence on the UK's high streets.

This comes after Etihad Airways announced it is to open a new north-west call centre in Manchester, which will be its first in Europe and is to be located in the Voyager building at the city's airport.
