SMEs 'can boost profiles through improved customer care'

Switching to 0800 numbers could be one way in which small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) help boost their marketing.

Mike Ogilvie, accountant and international conference speaker at mikeogilvie.com, explained how improving customer care is one of the best ways to advertise.

"I personally believe marketing for small businesses can be a massive profit robber unless they have got their basics right - which most haven't," he commented.

Instead, SMEs were encouraged to impress customers with efficient client handling, so they spread positive reviews via word of mouth.

Mr Ogilvie claimed this way firms will find "fans do your marketing for you" and they will be able to boost their presence without spending large amounts on only marginally successful campaigns.

Alan Beresford, managing director at EcoCooling.org, recently commented that another area where SMEs should look to make savings is in their IT framework, as many companies are unaware of the large amount they are paying out.
