Telecoms firm moves call centre back to UK

Date: 06/07/2011

New 0800 numbers may be required by one telecoms firm that has decided to re-establish its call operations in the UK.

New Call Telecom currently has a customer contact centre in Mumbai, but has decided to move the outlet to Burnley in Lancashire.

Initially, it is thought the change will create around 25 jobs, although this will hopefully increase to 100 vacancies over the course of the year.

Chief executive at the company Nigel Eastwood explained costs have been increasing in India of late, meaning a move back to the UK could save the enterprise money.

"We have been listening to what our customers have to say to us. We found there was almost parity between what we could pay in east Lancashire to what we could pay in India," the Burnley Express quoted him as saying.

At the end of last month, Dimension Data's 2011 Global Contact Centre Benchmarking Report revealed many companies now use call centres as a way of making a profit.
