It is important for companies to include their non-geographic numbers or any other prefixes they may use on their website.
This is according to TriplePundit author Gina-Marie Cheeseman, who conducted a study into how many enterprises display this kind of information online.
Investigating the homepages of Fortune 50 companies, Ms Cheeseman found seven enterprises did not have any numbers listed, despite having Facebook and Twitter icons.
Furthermore, 17 businesses had neither a phone number or icons for these social media tools on their websites.
"A phone number in general is an important thing for a company to list on its website, preferably on the homepage," Ms Cheeseman stated.
She added that having this type of information featured on the internet is part of providing good customer service to consumers.
Her comments come after Axis Coach owner Paul Hartnett told WMUR New Hampshire how important phone numbers are to his enterprise.
The contact information is printed on advertising boards, business cards and company literature, he stated.
