Tesco call centre to be expanded with team of home workers

Date: 12/07/2011

Special local phone numbers may be required by Tesco as it aims to improve its customer service though a new home working scheme.

The supermarket is set to create up to 300 jobs in Tayside in a bid to help its Dundee-located call centre, Scottish publication the Courier reports.

New recruits will initially receive training as team leaders and customer service managers.

They will then carry out their tasks from home - something it is hoped will be suitable for individuals whose lives mean they are unable to follow traditional working arrangements.

A spokesperson for the chain said: "The new positions will help the centre cope with continued rapid growth at its base in the city's Dryburgh industrial estate, where it takes calls from 18 million Tesco customers each year."

The retailer is not the only company to be expanding its call centre at present, as the Peterlee Mail reported that energy supplier npower is to take on new recruits in the north-east.
