Date: 13/07/2011

New 0800 numbers may be required by one major mobile telecoms company that is expanding its call centre.

Vodafone is set to create more than 250 jobs at its multi-million pound contact site at Etruria Valley in Stoke-on-Trent, This is Staffordshire reported.

Simon Gold, operations manager at the call centre, said the development shows the brand's "commitment" to the region.

It is thought that the majority of vacancies will go to individuals living in the north Staffordshire area.

This is despite Vodafone announcing the closure of its contact centre operations in Berkshire and Wiltshire.

Mr Gold said: "What we really want is people who are customer-focused, go the extra mile when serving customers and enjoy talking to customers on a day-to-day basis."

Vodafone is not the only large enterprise to be creating additional call centre jobs at present, as Tesco has just announced the launch of a new scheme in Tayside, Scottish publication the Courier reported.
